India humiliated England by 4 wickets in the first ODI of the series in Nagpur. Chasing 249 runs, the Men in Blue lost captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings, but an attacking fifty by Shreyas Iyer didn’t allow England to dominate the game. He scored 59 runs off 36 balls, laced with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

His dismissal didn’t bother the hosts as Shubman Gill (87) and Axar Patel (52) continued to attack the bowlers. Jofra Archer was the most impressive English bowler and troubled the Indian openers with pace and bounce.

Meanwhile, Adil Rashid and Saqib Mahmood picked up two wickets each for the visitors.

Earlier, England couldn’t capitalize on the start given by Ben Duckett and Phil Salt. The likes of Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell hit fifties, but they couldn’t carry on. Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Harshit Rana took three wickets each, respectively. Mohammed Shami, Axar, and Kuldeep Yadav dismissed one batter each in the contest.

India were without Virat Kohli, who was ruled out after injuring his knee on the eve of the match.

He was replaced by Jaiswal, who was given his ODI cap in the series opener.
