Shikhar Dhawan recently opened up about the emotional toll of his divorce, revealing it’s been two years since he last saw his son, Zoravar, and over a year since they last spoke. Dhawan and his ex-wife, Aesha Mukherjee, divorced in October 2023 after 11 years of marriage. A Delhi court noted Dhawan’s mental distress from being separated from his son, but he was granted only visitation rights and video calls, not full custody.

In a heartfelt interview with ANI, Dhawan shared that he’s been blocked from communicating with Zoravar but continues to send messages every few days, despite not expecting a response.

Dhawan expressed his deep desire for his son’s happiness and well-being, stating, “I just want him to be happy and healthy. Even though I’m blocked, I still reach out every few days. I don’t expect him to read my messages. I don’t mind if he doesn’t—it’s my responsibility to keep trying. I’ll continue doing this.”

He also shared how he has turned to spirituality to maintain a connection with his 11-year-old son, despite the challenges.

“It’s been two years since I last saw him, and a year since we last spoke.

It’s been really tough, but you find a way to cope. I miss him deeply, and I try to communicate with him spiritually. Through affirmations, I feel like I’m talking to him every day, sending him love and hugs. It’s the only way I can try to reconnect,” Dhawan explained.

He added that his meditation practice helps him feel closer to his son. “When I meditate, I visualize playing with him, being together—those moments that we shared. Even though my son is 11 now, I’ve only had about two and a half years with him.”

Since retiring in 2024, Dhawan has shifted to playing in T20 leagues for retired players.

He became emotional, hoping his 11-year-old son would understand the end of his career.

Dhawan played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, scoring over 10,000 international runs. He excelled in ODIs with 6,793 runs at an average of 44.11, including 17 centuries, and was part of India’s 2013 Champions Trophy-winning team. His last appearance for India was in December 2022.
