Tabish Hashmi, a Pakistani TV anchor, mocked Mohammad Rizwan‘s English on Geo TV’s show Haarna Mana Hai. Hashmi urged Rizwan to make some sense in press conferences instead of focusing on speaking English. His comments went viral, sparking debate online. Some agreed, while others criticized him for targeting Rizwan’s English skills.
“He represents 25 crore people. We expect our leader to speak confidently, look presentable, express sensible thoughts, and play fearless cricket with integrity. When I watch our captain, Mohammad Rizwan, during press conferences, I’m not saying he must speak in English.
He can communicate in Urdu, but it should be meaningful. What is this ‘sometimes you win, sometimes you learn, sometimes it’s cramped, sometimes it’s acting’?” Hashmi mocked Rizwan’s recent press conference statements.Hashmi’s remarks had the panelists, former Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Amir, Rashid Latif, and Ahmed Shehzad, in splits. Shehzad, who had previously mocked Rizwan’s “You either win or learn” comment, nearly fell off his chair laughing.
Hashmi said, “Such statements are only relevant when you’re performing well, like Australia, but they don’t hold when you’re struggling to win.”
Pakistan’s performance in the tournament has faced considerable criticism. “We’re heading to New Zealand next, hoping to perform better and learn from our mistakes. We aim to improve there,” he added.
Pakistan’s assistant coach, Azhar Mahmood, blamed the team’s poor performance on key player injuries and excessive pressure in the match against India.
“We haven’t performed as expected in this tournament. While we’ve shown good cricket in the format, it hasn’t translated well due to injuries.
We felt the pressure in our game against India,” he mentioned.“We understand where we need to make improvements. It’s all about adjusting and taking responsibility. The results have caught us off guard,” he said.
The former Test all-rounder emphasized the need for the public to maintain trust in the players.
“We must remain committed to the talent we’ve identified and give it time to shine over the coming months,” said Mahmood.
