IPL 2024: The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is being played. In its decade and a half long history, this Ranga Rang League has seen the rise of many players and the fall of many. In this sequence, today we are going to tell you about one such 'Wonder Boy', who caught everyone's attention with his explosive performance in the very first season of IPL, but in the very next season something like this happened to him. He gave up his dream of playing IPL. Let us know who is this player and what happened to him?
Who is the wonder boy of IPL?
In the first season of IPL i.e. 2008, an uncapped Indian player got a chance to debut for Rajasthan Royals. This young player showed in the very first match that he is a long race horse. He won the Player of the Match award by scoring 60 runs in 34 balls. The name of this player was Swapnil Asnodkar. He performed brilliantly not only in the first match but throughout the season and played an important role in Rajasthan Royals winning the title.
Showed strong performance in the first season
Swapnil Asnodkar scored 311 runs in nine matches that season at a strike rate of 133.47. Since then he started being called 'Wonder Boy'. His future looked very bright, but his fate had something else in store. The next season of IPL was played in South Africa. But as soon as he reached there, the wonder boy of Rajasthan Royals got injured during practice.
Due to this, Swapnil's performance was badly affected and he could score only 98 runs in 8 innings. After this, he got to play only 2 matches in IPL 2010 and only 1 match in IPL 2011. After this Rajasthan released him.
Waspi's attempt failed
After Rajasthan Royals' exit, Swapnil Asnodkar did not find any buyer. He performed brilliantly in the domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2015 and was the second highest run-scorer in the tournament. But still no franchise showed interest in him. After this, Swapnil also gave up his dream of playing in IPL. After this, he gradually became bored with domestic cricket and no one knows where he is today.
