Australia T20 captain Mitchell Marsh who has sustained lower back pain and dysfunction has been cleared to feature in the Indian Premier League 2025 as a specialised batter.
Mitchell Marsh sustained the injury earlier this year and was ruled out of the ODI tour of Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy 2025. Later it was revealed that the injury was to a disc problem that he had been managing since the limited overs tour of the UK in September 2024.
Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) has roped in the Australian allrounder for INR 3.40 Crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
While the 33-year-old was expected to be a boost for the LSG, the injury news struck the base with a new fear of losing one of the best all-rounders.Post the injury, Marsh saw a back specialist in early February and underwent a period of rest to try and settle the problem. He has returned to batting in recent weeks and has been cleared to feature in the IPL for LSG as a batter only.
While he is still not fit enough to bowl, he was expected to play a key role in LSG’s top batting order. With the Impact Player Rule‘s advantage, Mitchell Marsh can play the entire tournament as a specialised batter and can manage his injury without any difficulties.
Marsh is expected to join Lucknow Super Giants’ squad on March 18 and will link up with his former Australia, Western Australia and Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer.
Last season, Marsh played for Delhi Capitals and sustained a hamstring injury. The injury made him play just four games for DC and pushed him to return home for rehab. Prior to Delhi Capitals’ three-year stint, Marsh has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rising Pune Supergiants, Pune Warriors and Deccan Chargers.
As per LSG Schedule 2025, Lucknow Super Giants will play their first match against Delhi Capitals on 24 March in ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam under new captain Rishabh Pant.
