According to legendary South African batter AB de Villiers, Shivam Dube has made a compelling case for a place in India’s T20 World Cup team. As a critical batter in Chennai Super Kings’ star-studded lineup this season, Dube has excelled in the middle order and as a finisher, cementing himself as an asset to the side.

The southpaw has smacked 242 runs in just 6 matches, boasting an astonishing strike rate 163.51. His prolific scoring has significantly impacted the tournament, with opposition teams now reserving their top bowlers’ overs specifically to bowl to him late in the innings.

Dube has played a pivotal role for CSK as the defending champions have won four out of six matches and are marching towards qualifying for the playoffs.

Meanwhile, De Villiers discussed CSK’s performance, noting that they have returned to top form after a brief losing streak of several defeats.

“It was strange that the amazing Chennai Super Kings wobbled in the middle of their tournament and lost twice in a row. However, they’re back on track and are winning mtches in their shiny yellow jerseys.” said de Villiers.

The South African legend complimented Dube and stated that the lanky southpaw made a compelling case to be included in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in June; he is in a difficult situation because there are too many options available to him in his position.

“Shivam Dube could be picked for the T20 World Cup team. He’s had an amazing season; the only issue is that there are a lot of options. He is an incredible batter and a powerful striker,” commented de Villiers.

De Villiers and Dube played together for RCB for a few seasons, but the Proteas legend acknowledged that he had more freedom at CSK, which benefitted him.

“He’s improved a lot since leaving RCB, and as I mentioned earlier, he’s playing the best cricket of his life at the CSK camp. He seems to have discovered something there that has allowed him to feel free.” added the former SA captain.

The legendary player discussed the factors that are assisting Dube when batting.

“Just keeping his focus on the ball and playing the situation at the crease without overthinking.” So he’s got a few not-outs in this tournament, a few fifty as well, and he’s contributing to this CSK team’s success “, he continued.
