Harry Brook’s IPL Ban: Moeen Ali & Adil Rashid Support BCCI’s Decision

News Update

Harry Brook has been banned from the IPL for two years after withdrawing from this year’s tournament, citing his focus on England commitments.

The 26-year-old was signed by Delhi Capitals at last year’s auction for ₹6.25 crore.

Here’s what his England team-mates have to say:

Moeen: ‘Not Harsh, I Agree With It’

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has supported the BCCI’s decision. Brook withdrew from the 2025 season at the last moment, triggering the board’s new policy that bars players from re-entering the auction for two years after pulling out.

“It’s not harsh. I kind of agree with it, in a way, because a lot of people do that,” Moeen said on the Beard Before Cricket podcast.

This is the second consecutive year he has withdrawn. Last season, he was with Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 4 crore but didn’t play.

‘It Messes Things Up’

Moeen emphasised that last-minute withdrawals disrupt team planning.

– “A lot of people have done it in the past, and then they come back and get a better financial package.

It kind of messes things up.”

– “It’s messed his team up, obviously. Any team losing Harry Brook has to rejig everything.”

– “Unless it’s for family reasons or injury, you should face a ban. Otherwise, you actually mess a lot of stuff up.”

Rashid: ‘You Know the Rule When You Enter’

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid echoed Moeen’s thoughts.

“They actually put that rule in place before, and then this happened. So when you put your name in, you know the consequences.”

He added that exceptions can be made for injuries but agreed that players should be held accountable for voluntary withdrawals.
