Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has landed in a problem and will be fined INR 12 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after MS Dhoni’s sensational hitting.
His team was one over short at the end of the allotted time, and Lucknow had to place four instead of five fielders outside the 30-yard circle. The arrival of MS Dhobi created tension among the LSG bowlers, and they started bowling wides. Even Rahul adjusted the fielding without realizing that time was running out.
It led to Rahul’s first slow overrate offence, and according to the rules, the captain will have to shell out INR 12 lakh.
Shubman Gill Gujarat Titans), Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), and Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals) have already been penalized for the slow over-rate offence.
Pant’s Delhi Capitals have committed the offence twice and is on the cusp of being banned from a game if the team repeats the crime once again.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul lost his cool and calm composure in the death overs. Moeen Ali started hitting the rival bowlers for sixes to increase the run rate. Ravindra Jadeja assisted him. However, the hitting reached the next level when Dhoni arrived at the crease. He smashed three fours and two sixes in just nine balls.
Jadeja was unbeaten on 57 runs off 40 balls as CSK posted 176/6 in 20 overs.
