He is running fast between the wickets, and his power-hitting is making rivals uncomfortable. His reflexes behind the stumps are of top-notch, and the veteran has taken sensational catches in the 17th season.
Cricketers are not that fast or flexible when they touch 40, but Dhoni has a habit of defying all the logic. In the last game against Lucknow Super Giants, he scored an unbeaten 28 runs off 9 balls, laced with 3 fours and 2 sixes. He ran singles and a double, and his running reminded everyone of young Dhoni. The former CSK skipper was so fast that Ravindra Jadeja failed to match his speed. He was seen taking a deep breath after a double was completed. On the other hand, Dhoni, who is still carrying knee issues, didn’t show any discomfort.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu lauded the star player for his fitness levels. “When Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist retired from international cricket, they played in the Indian Premier League. They tried but failed to carry on as matching the levels of the tournament was not possible for them. And now look at MS Dhoni. He is 42, but there is no sign of slowing down. This shows why he is the fittest, even at this age.
“He was sensational with the bat against LSG. Other batters of CSK couldn’t hit the ball. Ravindra Jadeja was at the crease for most of the game, but he couldn’t time the ball. But the moment Dhoni arrived, it looked like the track was batting paradise. He made batting look so easy,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.
