Chris Gayle set the record books on fire with his once in a lifetime knock while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an IPL match against Pune Warriors India at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 23, 2013. The left-hander smashed a fiery 175*(66) runs as RCB posted a mammoth 263/5, which was the highest-ever IPL total at that time.

Although the record for the highest IPL total is now broken, the record for the highest individual T20 score is still unbroken.

Talking about the match, batting first, RCB got a flying start as Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan put up an opening partnership of 167 runs in 13.4 overs.

Dilshan got out after playing a steady knock of 33(36) runs, while Gayle went on to complete the fastest-ever T20 hundred in just 30 deliveries.

After the fall of the first wicket, Chris Gayle added 40 runs with skipper Virat Kohli before he was joined by AB de Villers. Gayle and De Villiers added another 44 runs for the third wicket where De Villiers scored a quickfire 31 runs off just 8 balls.

In the end, Chris Gayle remained unbeaten on 175 runs off just 66 balls, hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes. With this, Gayle broke another record of smashing most number of sixes in an IPL innings.

Chris Gayle's knock guided RCB to a total of 263 runs for the loss of five wickets. In reply, PWI were nowhere close to the total as they could only post 113 runs, losing nine wickets. Ravi Rampaul, Jaydev Unadkat and Chris Gayle took two wickets each while Murali Karthik, Vinay Kumar and RP Singh scalped a wicket each.
