Moeen Ali is hopeful that KKR still has a chance to make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs and thinks the team should take inspiration from Mumbai Indians. After a slow start, Mumbai have now climbed to the fourth spot in the standings. In contrast, KKR have suffered defeats in their last two matches.
When it comes to the defending champions, they will have to win their remaining six matches to keeping their playoff chances alive. In the pre-match press conference ahead of the PBKS game, Moeen emphasised that KKR should not be written off, as they have skill to secure victories.
Moeen feels the team would have to be very determined to make that happen.
“If you look at Mumbai, they started slowly. However, they have five matches and are ranked among the top four teams. We also need to have the same mindset and perform like them. We are at the halfway stage now and we have to win most of our games. I think we achieve our target,” he said.
“However, it will require a great deal of determination and belief. It’s the kind of competition where you can go on a streak and win four or five games in a row,” he added.
Moeen has played four matches in the 18th season of the tournament.
“Honestly, when I reflect on where I am in my career, it’s not as challenging as it would have been if I were younger and still playing international cricket.
“I’m ready to step up. I train as if I’m playing every match, and then I find out whether I’m selected or not. A decade ago, it would have been tougher,” he concluded.
