It was a historic Monday night (April 28) in Jaipur as 14-year-old batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a record 35-ball hundred to power Rajasthan Royals (RR) to an eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in an IPL 2025 match.

The win kept RR’s play-off qualification hopes alive. The chase of 210 was made easy by a chubby-cheeked prodigy, Suryavanshi from Bihar’s Samastipur, who was born three years after the cash-rich league started.

Second-fastest IPL ton

His 35-ball century is now the second-fastest in IPL and fastest-ever for any Indian after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball knock for RCB.

Suryavanshi hit 101 off 38 balls with as many as 11 sixes and seven fours as he became the youngest ever in the history of the tournament to complete a century at the age of 14 years and 32 days.

Chasing a stiff target of 210 on a friendly wicket, Rajasthan Royals went past the winning line, making 212 for two in 15.5 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 40-ball 70 not out in the chase.

Half-centuries for Gill, Buttler

Earlier, skipper Shubman Gill struck 84 while Jos Buttler hammered an unbeaten 50 to take GT to a formidable total of 209 for four.

Ravi Shastri said on air that RR assistant coach Sairaj Bahutule had told him about the little one’s fondness for jalebis and possibly head coach Rahul Dravid won’t mind a bit of indulgence.

When Shubman Gill scored 50-ball-84 and Jos Buttler smashed 26-ball-50 not out earlier, it seemed like a mayhem but once Suryavanshi started to send the balls into the orbit, no one knew that how he could be stopped.

“His hitting was tremendous,” GT skipper Gill said.

“Incredible, one of the best innings that I have seen. I just told him to keep going,” was all Jaiswal, the megastar in-waiting could say.
