Indian Premier League's 2025 playoff race has become increasingly intense. Every team is fighting hard to secure their place, while some have already fallen behind.

Amidst this battle, Mumbai Indians — after a poor start — have made a strong comeback, climbing to third in the points table. Their resurgence has created fresh tension for teams still chasing their first IPL title.

Pressure mounts on PBKS, DC, and RCB

Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Delhi Capitals (DC) — three franchises still waiting for their first IPL trophy — now face additional pressure.

Despite showing impressive form this season and staying in playoff contention, the rise of Mumbai Indians (MI) threatens to crush their championship dreams.

RCB leads the race

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, captained by Rajat Patidar, have been dominant so far, sitting atop the points table with 14 points.

Gujarat Titans are second with 12 points, while Mumbai Indians have surged to third, also with 12 points but trailing slightly on net run rate. Delhi Capitals are currently fourth, and Punjab Kings are closely behind. Both Delhi and Punjab still have five matches to play, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Mumbai Indians: Masters of comebacks

Mumbai Indians (MI) had a dismal start to the season, winning just one of their first five matches. However, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, they bounced back by winning five straight games. Historically, Mumbai Indians (MI) are known for late-season surges that culminate in title victories.

Their entry into the top four has unsettled teams like PBKS, DC, and RCB. If Mumbai secure a playoff berth, they could once again become one of the toughest teams to stop from winning the trophy.
