The impressive spell from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy has secured a 14-run victory for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 game against Delhi Capitals on April 29 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Their crucial contribution in the bowling department has helped the side to defend the 204-run total in Tuesday’s clash.
Choosing to bowl first, Delhi made Kolkata to bat first, where Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine opened the innings while Mitchell Starc opened the bowling attack. Picking well-calculated shots, both openers went on to score boundaries and sixes.
However, Starc dismissed Gurbaz in the third over of the game, making Rahane walk off the ground. The KKR skipper joined Sunil Narine to score a decent score of 79 runs in power play.
However, they went on to lose wickets in quick succession as Narine sent out for 27 runs by Vipraj Nigam. In the very next over, Axar Patel dismissed KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane for 26 on a lbw.
After Venkatesh Iyer‘s dismissal for 7 runs by Axar Patel, Kolkata lost four wickets for 113 runs. However, Angkrish Rghuvanshi and Rinku Singh are forging a partnership aiming to finish strongly.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi had 44 runs before being dismissed by Chameera while Rinku Singh lost his wicket for 36 run to Vipraj Nigam.
In the last over, Starc bagged the wickets of Powell (5), Ankul Roy (0) and Russell (17) helping the side to restrict for 204 runs.
With Starc having three wickets, Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel went on to bag two wickets each and Chameera have one dismissal.
In the pursuit of chasing the target, Abhishek Porel and Faf du Plessis opened the innings while Ankul Roy opened the bowling attack.
Porel lost his wicket to Ankul after scoring only four runs. Karun Nair, who came to bat, scored 15 runs before losing his wicket to Vaibhav Arora on an lbw.
By the end of power play Delhi Capitals scored 58 runs for two wickets. However, KL Rahul lost his wicket for seven on a run out to a direct hit Sunil Narine.
Delhi was struggling with quick dismissals for 60 runs. However, they did made a come back after Axar Patel and du Plessis made a solid partnership.
Meanwhile Faf du Plessis went on to smash fifty helping the side march towards the target.
Axar Patel who anchored the innings, dismissed for 43 runs by Narine and the Kolkata all-rounder went on to pick the wicket of Tristan Stubbs in the same over.
Sunil Narine bagged his third wicket by dismissing Faf du Plessies for 62 runs which foresaw the fall of Delhi’s line up.
Varun Chakravarthy went on to pick back-to-back wickets dismissing Ashutosh Sharma and Mitchell Starc.
However, Vipraj Nigam went on to fire boundaries making the last minute fight at Arun Jaitley. However, he lost his wicket to Russell for 38 runs and by the end of 20 overs, Delhi Capitals scored only 190 runs.
