Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered an exciting win by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 2 runs in the 52nd match of IPL 2025. With this victory, Bangalore reached the top of the points table with 16 points. This was the team's fourth consecutive win. At the same time, Chennai, who was out of the playoff race, had to face the fourth consecutive defeat. Bangalore won both the matches against Chennai this season.
In this match played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Chennai had a target of 214 runs to win, but the team could only score 211 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja batted brilliantly and scored an unbeaten 77 off 45 balls, while young batsman Ayush Mhatre scored 94 runs in 48 balls. On behalf of RCB, Lungi Angidi performed effectively and took 3 wickets.
Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said after a two -run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore that he himself takes responsibility for this defeat. He said, “When I came to bat, I needed to play some shots better in view of the circumstances. If I could change some shots well, the pressure would have reduced slightly. It was my mistake.”
Dhoni admitted that RCB had a good start, and Chennai made a comeback in the middle, but Romario Shepherd's explosive batting completely changed the game. He said, “Whatever bowler was bowling, Romario converted every ball into a boundary well.”
Dhoni also spoke on the bowling strategy and said that the team needs to practice more on yorker balls. He said, “When batsmen start putting shots, the bowler has to rely on the yorker. Even if the perfect yorker is not there, the low -full toss is the next best option, because it is not easy to kill it.”
Giving the example of Pathirana, Dhoni said, “If the yorker does not fall, he has speed, he can put a bouncer and keep the batsman confused. But if he tries to put the yorker and misses, the batsman gets a chance to play a big shot.”
Dhoni also said that options like 'paddle shot' in the current era cricket need to learn players. He said, “Most of our team's batsmen do not play paddle shots. Jadeja definitely plays, but he is more comfortable in playing Strait. So he was relying on his strength.”
