Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed Australian cricketer Mitchell Owen for injured Glenn Maxwell, who was ruled out for the remainder of Indian Premier League 2025. He broke his finger and his recovery will take a long time. Owen, who is currently a part of Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League, will join the Shreyas Iyer-led team for INR 3 crore. Owen was the highest run-getter in the BBL 2024-25, scoring 452 runs at a strike-rate of over 200 to help his team Hobart Hurricanes lift their maiden title.

“Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed all-rounder Mitch Owen as an injury replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who will play no further part in the IPL 2025 due to a broken finger,” an official IPL statement read.

“Owen has competed in 34 T20 matches and accumulated 646 runs, including two hundreds. He has taken 10 wickets in the shortest format of the game,” the statement added.

Owen had replaced South Africa’s Corbin Bosch, who left Peshwar Zalmi to play for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season. According to ESPNcricinfo, Owen will join the Punjab-based franchise after completing his PSL stint.

Owen has scored 101 runs and dismissed two batters in 7 matches for Peshawar. He became a household name after hitting two centuries in the Big Bash League, including 108 off 42 in the final. Owen went unsold at the IPL mega auction.
