Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batters to play cricket. He has been scoring runs since making his debut in 2008, and despite battling form issues, the legendary batter has always come out on top. Kohli is the highest run-getter in the history of the Indian Premier League, with over 8500 runs to his name. In the ongoing IPL 2025, he is on a roll and currently holds the Orange Cap with 505 runs coming from 11 matches.

He has held one end intact, playing a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s top spot surge. The 36-year-old has hit seven fifties, the most by any batter in the 18th edition.

With RCB winning 8 out of 11 matches, the passage to the playoffs has been achieved. Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu recently compared Virat to two past cricketers, Gundappa Viswanath and Mohammad Azharuddin. They were known for their wristy flicks and ability to rotate the strike. Kohli has been doing a similar job for more than a decade.

He concentrates on singles and doubles more than the big shots, which allows him to put pressure on the bowlers. “He has magical wrists like Gundappa Viswanath and Mohammad Azharuddin. They didn’t block the ball, and Virat is doing the same. He is using his wrist to play a sweep shot,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said.

“Virat is a complete package and is scoring runs season after season in the IPL. He doesn’t get tired, and his commitment is for 40 overs. Virat is so secure that he enjoys the success of his teammates, and we have seen him celebrating from the dressing room whenever someone from his franchise hits a six or four,’ he added.
