Shane Watson has highlighted that the biggest challenge for Gujarat Titans (GT) batters in their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) will be dealing with Jasprit Bumrah‘s bowling. Bumrah, who was absent from the initial games of the season, took some time to find his rhythm. The India pacer, known for his aggressive style, has claimed 11 wickets from 7 matches in IPL 2025.
The primary contributors to GT’s strong performances this season have been their top three batters, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler and they will now face the challenge of confronting Bumrah. Speaking to Star Sports, Watson noted that GT’s biggest hurdle will be scoring off Bumrah, as his precision and consistency will make it extremely tough.
“It is tough facing Jasprit Bumrah in any format anywhere. He’s just that good. When he doesn’t not take a wicket and gives away about 7 runs per over, it is considered a poor day for him,” Watson said.
“It is just mind-blowing how incredibly good Jasprit Bumrah is. The batters from Gujarat Titans are going to have a tough task of dealing with him. The key to handle Bumrah is to find a way to score runs,” he added.
According to Watson, Gill and Sudharsan will have to rely on their skills and shot selection, hoping for a rare loose delivery. However, he stressed that Bumrah is unlikely to offer such opportunities, meaning the GT batters will have to be at their best to tackle him.
“Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan are both confident in their batting and shot-making abilities. They trust that they will eventually get a loose ball to score runs. But with Bumrah, you rarely get that loose balls. It is going to be the ultimate battle for the world-class batters of GT,” Watson mentioned.
On May 6, the Wankhede Stadium will host a big encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
