Delhi: There may be a big change in the Indian Test team soon. After veteran batsman Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket, now the discussion of making opener Shubman Gill the next Test captain has intensified. On Wednesday, Rohit himself posted on Instagram and said goodbye to his Test career.

Why did Rohit retire?

Rohit wrote, “Hello everyone. I want to tell that now I am retiring from Test cricket. Playing in white jersey for India has been a matter of great pride for me. Thank you all for giving love and support for so many years.”

According to reports, the selectors had already made up their mind to remove the captaincy in view of Rohit's poor form. Now the chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar and his team believe that it would be right to hand over the command of the team to 25 -year -old Shubman Gill. However, the selectors will discuss with BCCI before applying the final seal on this decision. If Gill is made the captain, then the five -match Test series to be held on England tour will be his first responsibility.

Bumrah will become vice-captains

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's name was also in the race for captaincy, but according to sources, it is not possible to feed Bumrah in every Test on the tour of England as his workload will be managed. Bumrah had won India in one Test on the tour of Australia earlier this year and also led the team in two other Tests.

Sources say, “We want a player who is available in all five Test matches. So it would be better to keep Bumrah in the role of vice -captain.” The selectors want to prepare a young leader for a long time and Shubman Gill is being considered the right choice with the onset of the new test cycle.
