From smashing a 28-ball century in a domestic T20 game to making his IPL debut within 48 hours of signing—Urvil Patel’s journey has been nothing short of cinematic.
Chennai Super Kings signed the 26-year-old Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter as a replacement for Vansh Bedi on May 5, 2025, after Bedi was ruled out of IPL 2025 with a ligament injury. Just two days later, Urvil was named in the playing XI for CSK’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
Urvil, who was uncapped in the IPL before tonight, earned his call-up after a stunning domestic season. In the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he blasted 315 runs in just six innings at an average of 78.75 and a strike rate nearing 230. His 28-ball ton against Tripura, the joint second-fastest T20 hundred, made headlines. He finished the tournament with the highest number of sixes—29.
With Ruturaj Gaikwad injured, CSK have opted to give youngsters a platform. Urvil, who was also part of Gujarat Titans in 2023, now has the golden opportunity to showcase his power-hitting on the IPL stage.
From domestic dominance to donning the yellow jersey in just two days—Urvil Patel is a name to watch.
