The Mumbai Indians’ travel to Dharmasala for the IPL 2025 games against the Punjab Kings has been delayed due to the closure of the local airport due to increased security.

However, it is expected that the PBKS vs DC fixture on May 08 will proceed as per the plan. Flight operations at several airports in north-west India, including Dharamsala, Chandigarh, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar and Amritsar, have been suspended until further notice.

This comes in the wake of heightened security following India’s military operation Sindoor in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam attack, which claimed innocent lives and left many injured. The Indian Army’s swift and decisive action aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, sending a strong message against terrorism.

India targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pok in a move described by the government as ‘focussed, measured and non-escalatory in nature.’

The joint operation involving the Army, Air Force and Navy – specifically struck terrorist infrastructure believed to be behind planned attacks on Indian soil.

Three major groups bases, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen, and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were reportedly the attacked and destroyed.

Among the nine locations hit were Bahalwalpur, long suspected to be the hub of JeM operations since the 2019 Pulwama attack along with Muridke, Gulpur, Sawai, Bilal Camp, Barnala Camp, Sarjal Camp and Mehmoona Camp.

More than 80 terrorists involved with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in the Operation Sindoor. The government stated that military action was measured and that the targets were selected based on credible intelligence.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are expected to travel by road from Dharamsala to New Delhi for their May 11 clash against Gujarat Titans due to the continued closure of airports in Northwest India.

“India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution,” read an official statement.

The BCCI is monitoring the situation closely and with the league stage is nearing its end, travel disruptions could affect team logistics and preparations.
