Rohit Sharma has slammed the Indian commentators and media, claiming that they want to create controversies and add masala rather than discussing about cricket. He mentioned that the current status of the commentary is disheartening.

Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7. He feels the commentators of other countries are better than the Indian commentators. The 37-year-old also lambasted the broadcasters for giving importance to star players and not the game.

“You guys want to create controversies and believe in sensationalizing news. The quality has gone down. Earlier, cricket was given all the importance but it is now about getting more views. The tactics and analysis have taken a back seat,” Rohit said as quoted by IndiaToday.

“When we go to Australia, their commentators talk about cricket and this is when you feel the difference. In India, they single out a player and keep talking about him or her. It is not right. Cricket lovers want to hear about the game not masala. I know there are some fans who are interested in masala but not everyone is interested in controversial stuff. Fans want to know why their favourite stars are failing and what they should do to come out of slump. You should stop talking about personal stuff. I know you guys have platforms to say things but you can’t discuss about the personal lives. Respect the cricketers,” he added.

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement before the upcoming five-Test series against England.
