In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 for one week with immediate effect. The decision was taken following a detailed review and widespread consultation with franchise representatives, broadcasters, sponsors, and other key stakeholders in light of the ongoing security situation and the aftermath of recent hostilities with Pakistan.
The IPL Governing Council made the announcement after receiving formal representations from several franchises, who conveyed the concerns and sentiments of players, as well as the feedback from broadcasters and fans. The BCCI, while reiterating its full confidence in India’s armed forces, stated that the decision was taken in the collective interest of all stakeholders.
“At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation,” the Board said in its statement. “We salute the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation.”
The Board emphasized that cricket is a national passion, but the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country come first. The BCCI reaffirmed its commitment to support any national efforts during such critical times.
As for the remaining matches of IPL 2025, discussions are underway to determine whether they will resume in India or at an overseas venue. The BCCI clarified that this decision will be taken after assessing the situation in consultation with all stakeholders.
In the meantime, foreign players will have the option to decide whether they want to remain in India during the suspension period or return to their home countries.
The Board also thanked official broadcaster Jiostar, title sponsor TATA, and all associate partners for their unwavering support and alignment with national interest.
Further updates on the revised schedule and venues are expected in due course.
