Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and now commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has supported Indian veteran Rohit Sharma's decision to retire from Test cricket. Prior to the tour of England, Rohit announced his retirement on social media. Earlier there were reports that Rohit was asked to leave the captaincy before the World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign. Manjrekar counted the figures of Rohit's previous Test season and said that now his Test opener days were complete.

Manjrekar wrote on social media, “Rohit scored a total of 164 runs in the last 15 innings. Out of which 10 innings were against Bangladesh and New Zealand. The average was just 10.9. Rohit's Test opener days were over, seeing the current fitness.

At present, BCCI has not named the name of the new Test captain. Players like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are in this race in the team. However, Jaspreet Bumrah's name will probably not come because he has returned from injury and will have to manage his workload.

38 -year -old Rohit Sharma played 67 matches in his Test career and scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.57. This includes 12 centuries and 18 half -centuries. As an opener, Rohit scored 2697 runs in 38 Tests at an average of 42.80, including 9 centuries and 8 fifty.

Rohit wrote on social media, “Hello everyone. I want to tell that now I am retiring from Test cricket. It has been a great honor for the country to play in a white jersey. Thank you for everyone's love and support. I will continue to represent India in ODIs.”

Rohit has already retired from T20 International. He took this decision when India won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa under his captaincy. Now Rohit will take over the command of Team India in ODI on a tour of Bangladesh in August 2025. This three -match ODI series will be played between August 17 and 23.

Meanwhile, Rohit has scored 300 runs in 11 innings so far in IPL 2025. His average has been 30 and he has scored three half -centuries. His strike rate is 152.28.
