Despite escalating cross-border tensions, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match, scheduled for Friday, is “on as of now,” even as the league’s future remains under review pending government directives.
The situation comes a day after the May 8 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abruptly called off due to nearby air raid alerts in Jammu and Pathankot. The game was halted at 10.1 overs after floodlights went off, and was later officially called off citing “technical reasons.”
“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously, the decision will be taken keeping all logistics in mind,” Dhumal told PTI.
Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla stated that a special train is being arranged to evacuate PBKS and DC players and staff from Dharamsala, asserting that “players’ safety is of utmost importance.”
As of 11:00 PM IST on May 8, an emergency meeting of the IPL Governing Council was underway to decide the fate of the remainder of IPL 2025.
