The BCCI is set to decide the future of IPL 2025 following a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This development could allow the tournament to be completed after earlier disruptions.

The BCCI is likely to hold a meeting on May 11 or 12 to finalise the future of IPL 2025. The IPL halted on May 08, midway through the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, as tensions escalated between India and Pakistan.

The board will likely resume the tournament after a ceasefire was agreed upon between the two nations on Saturday.

The BCCI took swift actions to send the foreign players back to their homes via flights amid an escalation of conflict between India and Pakistan. However, a ceasefire was announced on Saturday evening.

The unexpected announcement came after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations dialled up his Indian counterpart around 3:30 PM and the two sides agreed to halt all military actions on land, sea and air.

A top BCCI official has told that the two nations agreeing to a ceasefire, matches can now be held across the country. Earlier, the BCCI were trying to figure out if the IPL can be completed by holding matches in the cities of Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

“We are aware that some overseas players have left, and taking their availability into account, we will decide how and when to resume the IPL. Rest assured, the IPL could restart soon. We are in constant touch with all stakeholders,” the source concluded.

However, the franchises will be immediate challenge for the franchises is to try and bring back their overseas contingent, most of them left India between Friday and Saturday. Severla franchises have reached out to players and staff asking them to be ready to fly back to India.

Some Players and support staff who are in transit have been asked to halt further travel for the time being. One of the franchises even asked its coaching staff to postpone travel out of India as they were getting ready to depart on Sunday.

A total of 57 matches had been completed in IPL 2025 and the 58th was going on May 08 between PBKS and DC in Dharamsala when it was called off after 10.1 overs of play. The IPL has not yet taken a call on whether that match will be replayed.

With 12 games remaining in the league matches and four playoffs remaining in the season and one possibility is that these fixtures could be played in three locations as mentioned above.

Seven teams are in race for the playoffs, with only Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) out of contention.
