The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that the national team will be touring to UAE next week, despite uncertainty over with potential tour of Pakistan due to IND-PAK tensions.
The decision has come after the PSL 2025 and IPL 2025 were suspended due to geopolitical tension.
The BCB has reiterated their commitment to international engagement but made it clear that the safety of players and support staff remains paramount.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in active and ongoing discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the Bangladesh National Team’s forthcoming tour of Pakistan,” the statement read.
However, the BCB has made no final decision on the Pakistan leg of their international calendar amid growing security concerns in the region.
The board emphasised that any decision on touring Pakistan will be taken only after a thorough review of the situation.
“The BCB wishes to reiterate that the safety and security of its players and support staff remain the Board’s highest priority,” it said.
“All decisions concerning the tour will be made with careful consideration of the current situation in Pakistan, ensuring they align with the best interests of the team and Bangladesh cricket.”
While uncertainity looms over the Pakistan tour, the Tigers will head to the UAE as planned for a two match T20I series against the hosts. The two matches against UAE are scheduled to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on May 17 and 19.
‘As part of its continued commitment to international engagement and preparation, the Bangladesh National Team will tour the United Arab Emirates for a two-match T20 International series against the host nation as scheduled. The series is set to commence next week,’ said BCB.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board appears keen to strike a balance between ensuring player safety and maintaining international fixtures.
In addition to the BCB, the interim government’s sports adviser, Asif Mahmud has expressed discourgament regarding the plan to visit Pakistan under the current circumstances.
‘As far as I know, the BCB meeting is going on. The BCB will inform about this. However, in the current situation, it would not be right to take any risk. The Pakistan embassy has also informed us about the security risk. The BCB will inform about the final decision,’ said Asif.
The suspension of the IPL has made it unlikely that India will tour Bangladesh in August or participate in the Asia Cup.
Even in the IPL concludes before the scheduled India tour of Bangladesh and the Asia Cup, it remains completely off the table.
The ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League was also postponed due to the conflict between the neighbouring nations.
The PSL-bound players, including two Bangladeshi players, Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana, returned home on Saturday.
Hossain has recently revealed the emotions of the star players have participated in PSL 2025 are relieved to have landed in Dubai, escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to the suspension of the tournament.
