The IPL 2025 encounter between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was called off midway due to heightened cross-border tensions following attacks from Pakistan on various locations in India. What began as a technical snag with a floodlight tower turned into a full-scale evacuation effort as security concerns escalated, leading to the match being abandoned during the 11th over of Punjab Kings’ innings.

As fans were asked to vacate the premises, the IPL confirmed the match cancellation, citing “unforeseen security reasons.” Behind the scenes, emergency protocols were put into motion to ensure the safe departure of players, support staff, broadcasters, and officials.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)in coordination with Indian Railways, arranged a special Vande Bharat train from Una to Delhi to transport players and staff out of the region. Both teams, along with match officials and commentators, were seen boarding the high-speed train under tight security.

Preity Zinta expresses gratitude to BCCI

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her heartfelt thanks to all parties involved in the safe evacuation of players, officials, and spectators from Dharamshala. She thanked Indian Railways and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for facilitating a “safe, swift & comfortable” exit from the region, and appreciated BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, and the Punjab Kings operations team for their coordination during the crisis.

Zinta issues an apology to Dharamshala fans

The actor-turned-cricket executive also took a moment to address fans at the HPCA Stadium, applauding them for remaining calm and preventing any panic. Zinta issued a personal apology for declining photo requests during the evacuation.

“Finally to all the people that were in the Dharamshala stadium – Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for not panicking & for any stampedes. You guys are absolute rock stars. I’m sorry I was a bit curt & said no to pictures with everyone but the need of the hour was the safety of everyone and it was my duty & responsibility to make sure everyone stayed safe Thank you for making it possible Love you all,” added Zinta.
