The Indian Premier League match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings on May 11 has been relocated from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel confirmed the development to Sportstarstating: “Since the match had to be shifted at the last minute, the BCCI asked if we could host it, and we have formally informed them that we are ready.”
Due to Operation Sindoor, several airports — including those in Dharamsala, Jammu, and Chandigarh — have been shut, preventing Mumbai Indians from travelling to Dharamsala on Wednesday. This prompted efforts to move the fixture out of Himachal Pradesh.
While Mumbai was initially considered as an alternative venue, Ahmedabad was ultimately chosen to avoid giving either team a home advantage.
Punjab Kings is expected to travel to Ahmedabad via New Delhi. “The teams will reach Delhi and then proceed to Ahmedabad,” a source said.
Punjab Kings had designated Dharamsala as its home base for three matches this season — against Lucknow Super Giants (May 3), Delhi Capitals (May 8), and Mumbai Indians (May 11). The team secured a 37-run win over LSG in the first of those games.
Later on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement to confirm the same. “The venue change has been necessitated due to logistical challenges. The match will begin at 3:30 PM IST as per the original schedule,” it read.
