Rishabh Pant in line for vice-captaincy role

Dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh pantwho made a stunning comeback in IPL 2025, is likely to be appointed Gill’s deputy. Pant’s consistent brilliance in overseas Tests — including match-winning performances in Australia and England — has made him one of India’s most dependable red-ball batters. With Rohit already out and Kohli unlikely to continue, the focus has shifted entirely to Gill. So far, no official word has been issued regarding Kohli’s final decision.

Further, Kl satisfieddespite strong performances in Australia, is reportedly not under consideration for captaincy due to his age and fluctuating red-ball form. The selection panel, led by Ajit agarkaris inclined towards building a young leadership core for the next World Test Championship cycle.

Among the new faces expected in the squad is Tamil Nadu’s Sai Sudharsan. The left-handed batter has impressed with his technique and temperament and is likely to make the cut for the England tour. He may feature at the top of the order or at No. 3.
