New Delhi: After being suspended on May 9 for a week due to the conflict between India and Pakistan, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume on May 17. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially not announced the venues for the remainder of the league, it is being reported that the Qualifier 2 and final of the 18th edition will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the Ahmedabad stadium has bee shortlisted to host both the matches on June 1 and June 3 respectively. The venues for the rest of the matches and the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator are not decided yet.

The report further suggests that weather remains as the only reason why the Indian cricket board has not decided the venue for the rest of the matches.

North India venues also in contention

The board, however is closely monitoring the monsoon’s movement across the entire country before they finalise the schedule. As far as the first two playoffs are concerned, the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator are expected to be held at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, which is potential option. Venues in Delhi, Jaipur and Lucknow are also in contention provided these places remain unaffected by rain and wet conditions.

The report also mentions that the Indian cricket board will not shift the IPL to a new city for the final and playoffs and the venues are most likely to be among the six cities already allotted for the remaining 17 matches of the season after the suspension. The main thing behind change of the venues is that setting up the transporting broadcast equipment and setting up infrastructure at the new venue would incurred heavier costs and would be challenging. The report also mentions that the Indian cricket board will not shift the IPL to a new city for the final and playoffs and the venues are most likely to be among the six cities already allotted for the remaining 17 matches of the season after the suspension.
