The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has permitted franchises to bring in ‘temporary replacements’ for foreign players unavailable for the remainder of IPL 2025. The move comes after Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings lost Jake Fraser-McGurk and Jamie Overton, respectively, with both players choosing not to return to India.

As per a memo sent to all teams, franchises can now sign replacements, but these players will not be eligible for retention ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. They will be required to enter the next player auction pool since they weren’t originally picked during the Jeddah auction last year.

“Temporary Replacement Players will be allowed until the conclusion of this tournament… but they must re-enter the auction for IPL 2026,” the memo stated.

Delhi Capitals have already signed Mustafizur Rahman for ₹6 crore as Fraser-McGurk’s replacement. Other teams are expected to follow suit as the tournament heads into its final stretch.
