The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has officially approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting reconsideration of Kolkata's Eden Gardens as the venue for the IPL 2025 final.

Originally scheduled to host the grand finale on May 25, Eden Gardens lost its hosting rights after the tournament was suspended for nine days due to geopolitical tensions. The final was subsequently rescheduled to June 3, leading the BCCI to reconsider the venue for the summit clash amidst concerns over rain forecasts.

Following the suspension, the BCCI announced that the remaining league-stage matches would be hosted across six venues, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

Although playoff venues have yet to be finalised, Kolkata was sidelined due to potential weather concerns.

After the venue announcement, CAB reached out to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata, asking for an official weather prediction for June 3. However, the Met Office clarified that accurate weather forecasts cannot be made this far in advance and that a reliable forecast would only be possible closer to May 25.

We have submitted all official documents: CAB

The CAB also contacted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Delhi, only to receive a similar response, with all documents having been submitted to the BCCI. CAB officials believe that excluding Eden Gardens based on speculative weather conditions is unfair.

"We remain confident that things will work out because we have done a very good job in organising everything. Also, you can't predict weather patterns so early, and we have submitted all official documents to this effect," CAB said in a statement.

According to Cricbuzz report, the and Qualifier 2, given the lower probability of rainfall in the city.

Mumbai is also under consideration for the other playoff fixtures, despite facing rain concerns during early June. Meanwhile, the board is monitoring forecasts across all shortlisted cities before finalising the playoffs venues.

The association believes that the decision is in the hands of the BCCI. However, if Kolkata misses out on hosting rights this season, there is a possibility it could be compensated with crucial matches like the semi-final or final of the ICC T20 World Cup in February-March 2026.
