Women's Big Bash League franchise, Adelaide Strikers, have confirmed the re-signing of South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old has been named the club's pre-draft overseas signing and will remain with the Strikers until the end of WBBL 12.

Wolvaardt's return will be a major boost for the side, who are looking to bounce back after a poor WBBL 10 campaign. The Strikers, who were eyeing a historic hat-trick of titles, managed just three wins from ten matches and finished in seventh place. Despite the team's overall issues, Wolvaardt scored 193 runs at an average of 24.12.

Having first joined the Adelaide-based side five seasons ago, Wolvaardt has featured in 71 matches and scored 1,726 runs at an average of 27.83 and a strike rate of 110.92. More importantly, she played an important role in the Strikers' back-to-back title-winning campaigns in WBBL 08 and WBBL 09.

"The club has become a second home to me, and I've made so many incredible memories here, especially our back-to-back championship wins. While last season didn't go as we hoped, I'm incredibly excited about the future and determined to help bring more success to the Strikers and our amazing fans. I can't wait to get back to Adelaide with the team," Wolvaardt said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Laura is a world-class player and a vital part of the Strikers family: Luke Williams

With Wolvaardt coming back, the Strikers will now look to build a strong squad around her. The team still has several list spots available, with local players like Katie Mack, Bridget Patterson, and Jemma Barsby currently out of contract. The club holds the second pick in the upcoming overseas draft on June 19, which will be crucial in making their WBBL 11 squad. Strikers head coach Luke Williams opened up about Wolvaardt's signing.

"Laura is a world-class player and a vital part of the Strikers family, so we are ecstatic to have her sign on for two more years. Her skill with the bat, combined with her leadership and experience, is invaluable. She has consistently performed under pressure and played a huge role in our previous championship successes. We know she will be a key pillar for us as we build towards a strong WBBL|11 season and beyond," he said.
