Delhi: The Indian team is fully prepared for the tour of England, where it has to play a five -match Test series. The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle will also be started from this series. This much awaited series is to start from June 20. Earlier, a shocking news came out for Indian cricket fans, when great batsman Virat Kohli announced to retire from Test cricket.
Kohli took this decision on 12 May, which made him the second Indian batsman to say goodbye to Test cricket before Rohit Sharma.
This decision of Virat broke the hearts of cricket lovers around the world. Meanwhile, New Zealand veteran batsman Kane Williamson reacted to this and honored Kohli’s decision. He told how the fans feel that a player will always play, but it is not possible due to the busyness of modern cricket.
In an interview to TalkSport, Ken Williamson said, “I think when you are not just a part of cricket but a player like Virat, who become full thinking and feeling, then people assume that it will always go on. But, it does not happen. There is a time when players take decisions to life. In international cricket, which is very much in international cricket, it is too much.”
He further said, “The energy that Virat has given and the way he has carried forward the game in all the formats is capable, when you think, it is understood that we are all human beings and every human being has to take decisions. Virat is the world-class leader and legend of our game, but also a magnificent person.
Significantly, before the tour of England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also made a big announcement. The board said that Shubman Gill will now be the new captain of the Indian Test team. At the same time, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as vice -captain.
