Sarfaraz Khan was dropped from the Test team for the five-match series against England. He didn’t make it to the Playing XI in five red-ball games in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under despite being a part of the squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee felt he wouldn’t be able to survive in front of the English pacers on seamer-friendly pitches.

Although he was selected in the India A side for the two unofficial Tests against England Lions, former players Aakash Chopra, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sanjay Manjrekar questioned the decision not to persist with the young Mumbai batter. They felt Sarfaraz was treated unfairly and was given marching orders.

It didn’t impact him as he gave a befitting reply to Agarkar and his team by scoring 92 runs in 112 balls in the first innings of the series opener against the England Lions. He hit 13 fours and added 179 runs with Karun Nair, who crossed the 180-run mark to justify his selection in the Test side after 8 years.

In 6 Tests, the 27-year-old Sarfaraz has accumulated 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including 1 hundred and 3 fifties.

He has been a consistent performer in first-class cricket, amassing 4593 runs in 82 innings at an average of 65.61, packed with 16 centuries and 14 fifties.
