As rain continues to delay the start of Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad, many fans are asking—will the match be shortened?
For now, the answer is no. As per IPL rules, there is a 120-minute window from the scheduled start time before overs begin to get reduced. Since the match was set to begin at 7:30 PM IST, officials have until 9:30 PM IST to get the game started without losing any overs.
Adding to the optimism, the groundsmen haven’t fully covered the pitch, indicating that the rain is expected to pass quickly and a full match might still be possible.
If the rain continues past the cut-off, the match will be shortened. However, for the match to be considered valid, each team must play at least 5 overs. If even that isn’t possible, the game will be abandoned, and Punjab Kings—being higher on the points table—will progress to the final on June 3.
