The Mumbai Indians batters Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav went on to anchor the innings in the middle overs during the qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025 season on June 01 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

After the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow, they went on to forge a solid partnership in the high-stakes clash.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow opened the innings while Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling attack. After Rohit Sharma‘s dismissal for 8 runs, Tilak Varma joined the opener to post 65 runs in the powerplay.

After Vijaykumar Vyshak went on to bag the wicket of Jonny Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav joined Tilak Varma, forging a 72-run partnership and scoring 44 runs before being dismissed by Chahal.

With his dismissal, Mumbai lost three wickets for 142 runs in the 14th over.

Speaking at the toss, Shreyas Iyer said,”We are going to bowl first. Slightly overcast and the wicket was under the covers yesterday. Based on these, we are going to bowl first.”

“It’s a fresh day, we’ve recovered pretty well, rejuvenated and our mindset is to go out there and win. Boys are in high spirits, everyone’s thinking positive.

The environment in the dressing room is top-notch at the moment, so I can’t complain much. Face comes in,” concluded Iyer.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said, “We also would have bowled first. Looks like a decent track, just need to bat well, assess the conditions early and I think we’ll be okay. It (pitch) has gotten much flatter, the balls have stopped doing as much as it used to do.”

“If you bowl well, fast bowlers tend to get some help. At the same point of time, if you bat well, you can score a lot of runs.

There are a lot of areas where we could have got better in the last game,” said Hardik Pandya.

He added, “Playing a tight crucial game, one day break, it’s tough but we are into a rhythm and we know what we need to execute. We came very early morning after the game, we needed some rest, most of the guys focused on recovery and being fresh for today.”

“The intensity will be very important and we’re looking forward to it. We had to make one change. Reece comes in place of Gleeson who has a niggle. Reece Topley comes in,” concluded Pandya.
