IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer, defeating Mumbai, recorded records

The second qualifier match of IPL 2025 became historic when Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets to enter the finals. Chasing a big target of 204 runs, the Punjab team won the match in 19 overs on the basis of captain Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy innings.

Iyer’s stormy batting:
Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten innings of 87 off just 41 balls, including 8 sixes and 5 fours. When 22 runs were needed in the 19th over to win, Iyer ended the match with four sixes on Ashwini Kumar’s bowling. He shared an important 84 -run partnership for the fourth wicket with Nehal Vadhera (48 runs).

Records Back:

  • The biggest run chase in IPL playoffs: The target of 204 runs has so far become the biggest successful chase in the playoff/knockout history.
  • 200+ run chase against Mumbai for the first time: For the first time in the IPL against Mumbai Indians, a team has won 200 or more runs.
  • Punjab Kings record: Punjab has become a team successfully chasing the target of 200+ runs (8 times) in IPL history.
  • The most sixes in the season: Shreyas Iyer has become the highest sixes batsman for Punjab Kings this season (38 sixes so far).
  • First captain to reach three teams to the finals: Iyer has now become the first captain in the history of IPL to take three different franchises (2020-Delhi Capitals, 2024-KKR, 2025-Punjab Kings) to the finals.

Now Punjab Kings will face the final on June 3 from Royal Challengers Bangalore. This time a new team is going to get IPL Trophy.
