Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Punjab Kings, has set a new record in the IPL as he became first skipper to lead three different teams in the final of the tournament. In Qualifier 2, his exceptional knock of 87 not out off 41 balls played a crucial role in PBKS securing a place in the final. The team is set to play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After his match-winning display, former India batter Robin Uthappa took to X (formerly Twitter) to suggest that Shreyas Iyer is likely to captain India in multiple formats in the near future. However, it’s worth noting that Iyer is currently not a part of India’s Test or T20I squads and was not considered for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.
“I’ve said this time and again and I’ll say it AGAIN!! Iyer will captain India in multiple formats!! He has to!! He’s that good,” Robin Uthappa wrote.
In IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer has proved himself as an astute leader, with his deep understanding of the game playing a key role in PBKS’s qualification for the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Bought for INR 26.75 crore, Iyer has proven his worth. His performances have certainly attracted the attention of Uthappa.
