A historic moment unfolded in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Monday as Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the first bowler to reach the coveted milestone of 200 wickets. The 33-year-old achieved this feat during his side’s match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Chahal wasted no time in making history, dismissing Muhammad the Prophet on just the third ball of his opening over. The delivery induced an outside edge from Nabi, resulting in a caught & bowled dismissal for Chahal. This historic wicket marked Chahal as the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in the IPL. He finished the match with figures of 1 for 48 in his four overs.
Following Chahal’s achievement of 200 wickets in the IPL, fellow leg-spinner Amit Mishra of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) shared a playful congratulatory message. Mishra’s message, shared on LSG’s official Twitter handle , humorously acknowledged Chahal’s accomplishment by stating, Yuzi, you’ve left me behind because I’m not playing.
“Hi Yuzi, very happy for your 200 wickets. You have scolded me because I am not playing, that is why you have spoken badly. And I wish that there is a good health competition. I am waiting for my chance to beat you again. Let's see what happens next. But I am really happy for you. Keep it going. All the very best,” said Mishra.
Mishra has also claimed a significant number of wickets in the tournament. Currently standing as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history, Mishra boasts an impressive tally of 173 wickets. He has been a part of the IPL since its inception in 2008 and has featured in 161 matches to achieve this feat.
