Jamie Overton Named in England Squad for First Test Against India

The bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton has been named in the test squad for the upcoming India tour of England 2025, which is set to begin on June 20.

The 31 year old will be making a comeback after nearly three years for the country in redball format. His last appearance comes against New Zealand at Headingley in June 2022.

However, he sustained a broken little finger injury on his right hand during the first ODI of the West Indies tour of England on 29.

Meanwhile, Seamer Brydon Carse along with Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes will be making a comeback in the 14 member squad.

It is notable that Carse and Woakes have missed out England’s recent win over Zimbabwe due to niggles.

On the other hand, Gus Atkinsonhas missed the selection due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Test against Zimbabwe.

England’s fast bowling reserves have been further depleted by injuries to youngsters Josh Hull and Sonny Baker, who have heel and ankle problems resepctively.

Both have pulled out of England Lions’ second four day game against India A due to start on Friday. Ben Stokes who is currently recovering from Hamstring injury has been considered and will be captaining the side.

Jacob Bethell has further impressed in England’s one-day team amking a sparkling 82 in the first ODI against West Indies.

The first match of the test series will be played between June 20 and 24 at Headingley.
