Gautam Gambhir is ready for the upcoming tour of England. The visiting team will compete in a five-match Test series against the Ben Stokes-led unit. Gambhir will coach a young team after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement from the longest format. Shubman Gill is the new captain, and Jasprit Bumrah, the senior member of the squad, will assist him.

Sai Sudharsan, Arshdeep Singh, and Abhimanyu Easwaran haven’t played a Test match, while Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna have been recalled to the side. Gambhir and Shubman attended a pre-departure press conference in Mumbai. The head coach was asked about being under pressure before the challenging series.

“I am always under pressure. I was under pressure after losing to New Zealand and Australia, I was under pressure after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” Gautam Gambhir said.

“You want results in every match as a coach. It is not about winning or losing. The pressure is always there,” he added.

Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He won the Test series against Bangladesh but suffered a clean sweep against the Kiwis at home. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia didn’t go India’s way, as the hosts clinched the series 3-1. However, the success in the white-ball matches against England and the Champions Trophy triumph gave the coach breathing space.
