The World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 kicks off on June 11, with defending champions Australia set to face South Africa, who are making their maiden appearance in a WTC final.
While the Proteas aim to script a historic win, Australian skipper Pat Cummins will not only look to defend the title but also eye two major personal milestones at Lord’s.
Cummins has picked up 294 wickets in 67 Test matches so far. A five-wicket haul in the final would make him the sixth Australian fast bowler to join the prestigious 300-wicket club in Test cricket. With an impressive record of 51 wickets in 11 Tests in England, Cummins is expected to pose a serious threat on the pace-friendly Lord’s surface.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah currently holds the record for most wickets in the ongoing WTC cycle, with 77 scalps in 15 matches. Cummins is close behind with 73 wickets from 17 games. Just five wickets in the final would see the Australian captain surpass Bumrah and claim the top spot in this WTC cycle. Mitchell Starc is also in the mix with 72 wickets, making this a tight race.
As Australia aim for back-to-back WTC titles, all eyes will be on Pat Cummins—not just as a leader but as a bowler chasing history. With personal milestones and a championship on the line, the final promises to be a thrilling spectacle.
