At just 25 years old, Gill now faces the challenge of leading India through the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle, which will see the team play 18 Test matches across six series.

WTC 2025–27 Points System (Unchanged)

The points system remains the same as the previous edition:

Win: 12 points

Tie: 6 points

Draw: 4 points

Loss: 0 points

Over-rate penalty: 1 point deducted for each over short

Final standings will be determined by points percentage (PCT), ensuring balance regardless of the number of matches played.

This WTC cycle will define the early years of Gill’s captaincy. The tour of England in June 2025 will be his first major challenge, followed by a mix of home comforts and difficult away series, including trips to Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
