The Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has reacted to his new nickname ‘Hazlegod’ after an impressive IPL 2025 season. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon have also commented on the pacer’s nickname ahead of the WTC finals.

Hazlewood was RCB’s best bowler in the IPL 2025 season, picking up 22 wickets in 12 matches as they went on to win the IPL title for the very first time.

The RCB fans have started calling him ‘Hazlewood’, a nickname that the pacer himself is hoping will run out of steam quickly.

Speaking to the ICC ahead of the World Test Championship final, Josh Hazlewood said that while the name is flattering, he doesn’t feel it will work out in Australia.

“Yeah, hopefully, it runs out of steam pretty quickly. It’s flattering, obviously, to hear it around the grounds in India, but I don’t think it’ll take off in Australia,” said Hazlewood.

As Hazlewood is hoping the name will die down, Starc said that he wants the name to stick as Hazlewood isn’t fan of it.

“Hopefully, it sticks because I don’t think he likes it too much.

He’s had a fantastic few months, the big fella over in India, and he’s come home with bags of cash. So I look forward to seeing him in action here at Lord’s,” Starc said in the same video.

Nathan Lyon claimed that the pacer referred to himself as ‘HazleGod’ the other day which caught his off guard. Lyon feels that Hazlewood is planning to run with the game.

“HazleGod, he actually referred to himself as it the other day, which totally took me by surprise. Off the back of him winning the IPL, I think he’s running with it,” said Lyon.

Josh Hazlewood has been named in the Australia squad for the upcoming WTC finals against South Africa, starting from June 11 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
