India’s wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, was thoroughly impressed after his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) teammate, Aiden Markram, dominated at the iconic Lord’s, helping South Africa clinch their first-ever World Test Championship (WTC) title. Markram’s outstanding 136-run innings guided South Africa to a five-wicket victory over Australia, earning them the WTC mace for the first time.
Although Pant is currently in Kent, England, with India gearing up for a tough five-match Test series against Ben Stokes’ England, starting June 20, he kept an eye on the action at Lord’s, where his IPL teammate was making waves. Pant and Markram had shared a dressing room during LSG’s IPL 2025 campaign.
In a tweet, Pant commended Markram for his “great knock” and offered his congratulations to South Africa for winning the prestigious title. “Well played, Aiden brother . I am so happy for you – what a great knock under pressure. You have made us all proud and congratulations to South Africa on lifting the WTC mace”, Pant shared on “X”
The bowlers dominated the opening two days, with 18 wickets falling, including five-wicket hauls from Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins. Australia, in a tough spot, set a target of 282 after Mitchell Starc’s determined half-century. Although South Africa had chased 250-plus targets successfully five times before, including three against Australia, the odds were against them at a venue where only two successful chases had occurred since 2004.
Nevertheless, Aiden Markram’s exceptional performance and Temba Bavuma’s gritty 66, despite a hamstring injury, led South Africa to triumph.
