Rishabh Pant, recently named the vice-captain of India’s Test team, continues to make his mark in the longest format of the game.

From delivering match-winning performances like the unforgettable Gabba Test in 2021 to rewriting record books, Pant has become one of India's most impactful cricketers in red-ball cricket — especially on overseas soil.

Pant’s Unique Test Record

Rishabh Pant is now the only visiting wicketkeeper-batsman in Test history to score centuries in Australia, England, and South Africa — a feat unmatched by any other player, including greats like MS Dhoni.

In Australia, Pant played a stellar unbeaten knock of 159 in Sydney* during the 2018–19 series — a crucial contribution to India’s historic series win Down Under.

In England, he registered two centuries — the first in 2018 at The Oval (114 runs) and the second in 2022 at Edgbaston, Birmingham (146 runs).

In South Africa, Pant scored a gutsy unbeaten 100 in Cape Town in 2022 — once again proving his ability to anchor under pressure.

No other wicketkeeper in Test history has managed this trio of away centuries, making Pant’s achievement truly historic.

Pant's rise continues off the field as well. For the upcoming five-Test series against England, he has been appointed vice-captain, with Shubman Gill taking over as skipper. This marks a significant shift in India’s red-ball leadership group.

Pant’s numbers against England are also impressive — 781 runs in 21 innings across 12 Tests, including three centuries and four fifties. His explosive yet controlled batting style makes him a crucial figure in the middle order.

Reacting to his new leadership role, Pant said: “It’s a big responsibility, but when you’re out on the field, you don’t think about being the vice-captain or a senior player. You just play as a batsman and do your best. The game takes care of itself.”
