Shubman gill captaincy: Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the Indian team landed on the field for the first time with a young combination. However, in the first Test played in Leeds, India suffered a crushing defeat against England by 5 wickets. England performed well and won the match.
Indian batsmen batted well in both innings, but the team did not win. The biggest concern was the Indian fielding, with several catches. Also, questions are now being raised on the captaincy of captain Shubman Gill. After the match, a figure has come out, seeing that the fans are raising finger on their captaincy.
In this match, Shubman Gill was captaining the Indian team in Test cricket for the first time. But his captaincy in the debut test could not give up any significant impact. His strategy on the review system ie DRS proved to be very bad.
Gill reviewed a total of 6 times, including both innings of England. Not a single review proved to be correct. Five times, wrong decisions were taken directly and once the case went in favor of the batsman under the “Uppuers Call”. Thus 6 out of 6 reviews went waste, which is an embarrassing figure for any captain.
In this match, India scored 471 runs in the first innings while batting first. After this, England were given a big target of 371 runs by scoring 364 runs in the second innings.
However, England, chasing this huge target, won with Ben Docket’s 149 runs, Joe Root and Jack Crolee’s half -centuries with 5 wickets remaining. This is the second largest run chase achieved in the fourth innings in England’s Test history.
