Team India’s T20 captain and star batter Suryakumar Yadav is currently sidelined from cricket due to a sports hernia, for which he recently underwent surgery in London. After an impressive run in IPL 2025, Surya had been dealing with discomfort, which was later diagnosed as a sports hernia.

While the Indian Test team is currently in England for a five-match series, Suryakumar is also in the UK, focusing on his recovery.

He shared a health update on Instagram, confirming that the surgery was successful and that he has now entered the rehabilitation phase.

What Is a Sports Hernia?

A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the lower abdominal or groin region, commonly seen in athletes.

It typically results from sudden, explosive movements like sprinting, twisting, or kicking. The condition causes persistent pain, which worsens with continued physical activity and often requires surgical intervention if conservative treatment fails.

Despite Mumbai Indians not making it to the final, Suryakumar Yadav had a phenomenal IPL season:

Matches: 16

Runs: 717

Strike Rate: 167.91

Fifties: 5

Highest Score: 73

Boundaries: 69 fours and 39 sixes

His explosive batting was a major highlight of the tournament, helping Mumbai Indians reach the playoffs, although the team bowed out after a loss to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2.

Fans will be eagerly waiting for Suryakumar’s return to full fitness, especially with key international tournaments on the horizon.

If fit in time, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to return for India’s white-ball series against Bangladesh in August. The star batter remains a key figure in India’s limited-overs plans.
